It was a great pleasure and a privilege to judge the 95th Anniversary Show of this society and I was greeted with an excellent entry of 73 Dandies, with many quality exhibits making competition tough in some classes. Some very promising puppies were overawed by the proceedings and some ring craft lessons before the day would have benefitted them. Lots of beautiful heads but more than a few with short ribcages and long couplings.
- BEST IN SHOW was the junior male CLOVERWOOD HAPPY DAZE who was winning his third certificate on the day
- Best Opposite Sex & Reserve Best In Show was CH DIDDIMONT LUNA WUFFGOOD
- Best Puppy was the bitch CALMARLIN MEMENTO VITA
- Best Veteran was the bitch CH GERMAN DANDIES VIOLETTA
- Best Special Vintage was the male CH BORDERSTONE KINGMAN FOR LANNIA
Many thanks to my stewards Marie Poole and Jane Cundall who were drafted in at the last moment.
DOGS
PUPPY
- 1ST DAINTY DANDIES EXPLORER AT LENACOURT
6-month pepper of good length and gentle curves in his top line. He has a good rise of skull and soft expression from his large eyes. A touch long in his muzzle. Good rear action coming into good coat. Needs time to drop in chest and tighten in front but he is full of promise. - 2ND PUDDOCKSWELL ROCKIT
7-month mustard at his first show a little un co-ordinated and in need of some ring training but he is full of type with better fore chest than the winner at the moment, good ribcage and strong bone and good feet. I liked his strong muzzle of good proportions. Winner had a little more rise of skull. However he has much to like and will do better when he has more experience and training.
JUNIOR
– all three of them were full of type
- 1ST CLOVERWOOD HAPPY DAZE
15-month mustard who is full of quality and with a superb headpiece with beautiful large dark eyes. He has strong bone and feet and is beautifully made at both ends and moves accordingly with good stride. In excellent coat. I would prefer a little more length to him and when he sheds a little body that will help him. In the challenge his head and expression with his soundness on the move were the pulling factors for me and he won the CC which was his third. Later Best in Show. - 2ND LOVELETTIE BUSY BEAN
A very different type being bigger and longer and at the moment a little up on the leg, but he has some curves to his top line and an excellent mustard coat. He covered the ground well. I preferred the head of the winner who was more finished in chest and body but I think this 12-month-old dog will finish well – just needing to fill his frame. - 3RD CLOVERWOOD’S STORM SHADOW
GRADUATE
- 1ST CLOVERWOOD’S STORM SHADOW
Third in the junior class and litter brother to the winner, pepper of good length and curves and very good quarters and rear action. Not the rise of skull of his brother. Very good coat texture. Tail a little long. A little loose in his front action but he has a lot of quality. And the potential to finish well. - 2ND DIAMONDANDIE EARL
2-year-old mustard in good coat and with a lovely temperament. Sound mover but needs a little more angulation. Correct tail and tail carriage. I preferred head of the winner.
POST-GRADUATE
- 1ST PUDDOCKSWELL WHAT THE DICKENS OF BLEAKLEEE
2-year-old mustard who is strongly made all through. Shown in excellent coat and moving well at both ends with excellent tail carriage. He was carrying maximum body which detracted a little from his outline. All male in head with strong skull but a little more stop would enhance. Full of character. - 2ND DIAMONDANDIE EARL
LIMIT
– a good class for depth of quality
- 1ST DANDIROYAL DASHWOOD
At 20 months, this pepper dog has lovely length and curves to his outline and he was shown in excellent coat. He is very much a teenager in body and needs a little more finish to his ribs and chest. He moved very well at both ends. His tail is longer than ideal. Best mover of the class. A lot of potential for the future. - 2ND REDGREET MIGHTY OAK
I was very taken by him when he entered the ring, more mature and looking more balanced than the winner but on examination he was carrying too much weight which made him rather heavy in front and front action and reduced his curves. He has good head proportions and rise of skull and good expression. Better tail than the winner. Will look even better when he is in harder condition. I liked him a lot. - 3RD DRYFE VALLEY MIDNIGHT BLUE
OPEN
- 1ST PUDDOCKSWELL HOODWINK
5-year-old pepper lacking in topcoat on the day, accentuated by being over trimmed he scored in head proportions but could be wider in under-jaw. Good length and some curve to his outline but needing more chest and body. - 2ND MY DAN’D LOOK WHAT I FOUND OF PUDDOCKSWELL
4-year-old mustard in better coat and with more chest than the winner, with good bone. Not the head qualities of the winner. Again, a little over-trimmed and his croup and tail set detracted from his outline.
CHAMPION DOG
- 1ST CH MISHANDA MISCHIEF MANAGED
3-year-old mustard dog shown in beautiful coat and presented to look a picture and he moves very well. Well-constructed, with good curves to his outline and excellent tail carriage. For these reasons he presented a strong challenge to the CC winner, but I preferred head and expression of the junior. Reserve CC. - 2ND CH DARIANT GLADIOLUS AT KAREZIG
2-year-old pepper who won this place for his length and movement. Appealed a lot in head and expression but not the maturity of rib and chest of the winner. Sound scopey mover but his tail carriage could be better. - 3RD CH ETSILL MYKILLKVI WITH TOLLCROSS
SPECIAL VINTAGE
- 1ST CH BORDERSTONE THE KINGMAN FOR LANIA
10-year-old pepper in superb coat and a really good mover. He has lovely head proportions and expression from large dark eyes. Rather full bodied now, which has reduced his curves but lovely type throughout. - 2ND INZIEVAR CALNSMAN
Mustard who is almost 11 years old and what a great advert for the breed he is. And he was shown in super condition and excellent coat and retains lovely head qualities. Couldn’t match the winner in chest or front action on the day but what a lovely veteran he is.
BITCHES
SPECIAL VETERAN
- 1ST CH GERMAN DANDIES VIOLETTA
9-year-old mustard who is still shapely in her curves and is a great mover, obviously loving the show ring. Shown in excellent coat. Lovely rise of skull coming from good stop, and excellent large eyes. A picture of femininity and breed type. BEST VETERAN - 2ND LOUDOUNHILL TRANQUIL IONA
8-year-old pepper with lovely head and expression. She is a lovely size and was in very good coat. Good drive from her quarters but not as accurate in front as the winner or quite as curvy in outline.
SPECIAL VINTAGE
- 1ST INT CH DANTY DANDIES ROYAL DUTCH EMMA FOR LENACOURT
10-year-old and with such personality coming through her expression and attitude in the ring. She has retained all her qualities which took her to a great career. Great drive from the rear. She ran the dog close for best vintage of the day – a remarkable pair who are great ambassadors for the charms of the breed.
BABY PUPPY
- 1ST REDGREET PARSLEY
5-month pepper who has obviously enjoyed her schooling for the show ring and carried herself with confidence and some style and excellent tail carriage. She is scopey in her lines and well put together. Obviously not ready in coat or finished in development but she is full of promise.
PUPPY
– a really good class full of promising puppies who are going to have good careers
- 1ST CALMARLIN MEMENTO VITA
This 10-month mustard had a big pull in maturity and in her performance here. She is long and scopey and has some curve to her top line. She has a beautifully feminine head which has good rise of skull and a correctly proportioned muzzle. Shown in excellent coat. She is a touch long in her couplings and tail. Has the look of a teenager at the moment and can drop in chest and develop in body when she will look more balanced. Has a lot of potential and is presented to look a picture. Best Puppy in Show. - 2ND DIAMONDANDIE RUBY SUNRISE
7 months at her first show and needing some schooling but she gained in confidence as the class progressed and I saw flashes of what is to come. On the table she pleased me all through for head and balance and curves and her structure. I would have been very happy to take her home with me and only lack of schooling and assurance on the move stopped her today against the winner who excelled in these areas. - 3RD PUDDOCKSWELL MARIS PIPER
JUNIOR
- 1ST LOVELETTIE FULL OF BEANS
Mustard of 12 months and a very typey bitch all through, full of quality and character. She was in excellent coat on the day, and I liked very much her head proportions and deep stop and lovely eyes and expression. She looked so typical standing and moving. Won this good class on her coat and movement and made the last four in the challenge. - 2ND PUDDOCKSWELL COPPERFIELD OF BLEAKLEE
Another good example of the breed, more mature in body than the winner and also possessing a very pleasing head and expression. I thought she was carrying maximum body for her size which reduced her curves in her body lines and she was not quite in the coat of the winner but she was a serious contender. - 3RD CLOVERWOOD PRECIOUS PANSY
GRADUATE
- 1ST REIDSWIRE FLOWER OF YARROW
2-year-old of lovely size and an excellent mover. She could have more stop and rise of skull. Carrying too much weight today. - 2ND PUDDOCKSWELL LITTLE FIG
18-month-old with a better head than the winner with good expression and good length of body and some shape to her top line. She needs to fill out in rib and chest which shows in her front action. Today she was short of coat and over-trimmed which gave her an exaggerated top line.
POST-GRADUATE
- 1ST LOVELETTIE BUTTER BEAN TO HAWKESMILL
12 months old and full of promise with her shapely body of unexaggerated curves. Shown in good coat and she is well put together and moves very well but could carry her tail a little higher. She needs time to develop in head but she is full of promise. I see she is sibling to the junior bitch winner and the 2nd in junior dog – evidence of a strong family line. - 2ND PUDDOCKSWELL QUEEN OF SCOTS
18-month who is scopey in body but looking a teenager in her rather exaggerated top line which will be moderated when she has more body. Strong skull with good stop and rise of skull. Shown in good coat. I think she will mature well. - 3RD DRYFEVALLEY GOLDEN LULLABY AT CARNKIE
LIMIT
– a good class
- 1ST COFGODAS BEURRE D’AVALON
3-year-old mustard who really appealed on examination for her size and proportions and gentle curves. Excellent head proportions and expression which gave her the edge here. She has a lovely temperament and went with style and accuracy. I hope her handler will help her a little more, with a little more finish to her trimming as she has a really good bitch here who has very good natural carriage. She is full of type and in a close challenge her correctness of build and her maturity of body and style on the move won her the reserve CC. She has potential to do more top winning. - 2ND BONNYBECK I’M NO MUGGLE AT HUFFLETUFT
22-month pepper with a very good body with gentle weasel like curves. She was in lovely coat and was presented to look a picture. She moved very well but I preferred the head and expression of the winner. - 3RD JOLLYGAZE URSULA AT HAWKESMILL
OPEN
- 1ST DRYEFEVALLEY WILLOW AT CARNKIE
Stood alone here but had great appeal in size and proportions and really made the most of herself on the move. Excellent head qualities and beautiful eyes. Excellent presentation and coat. Could have a little more angulation at both ends but she makes a balanced picture and worthy of a place in the final cut today.
CHAMPION BITCH
- 1ST CH DIDDIMONT LUNA WUFFGOOD
3-year-old mustard whose performance here made her a standout winner of the class. She moved really well with good stride and excellent shape held on the move. In good coat and she has a feminine quality head of good proportions with beautiful dark eyes. Mature in rib and body. A good winner of the CC today and a close call for best in show as she had a little more curve than the dog but his ultra sound movement and wonderful head just swayed me his way. A very worthy Reserve Best in Show. - 2ND CH CLOVERWOOD HERE COMES LULU
This lovely 2-year-old pepper bitch recently won a group placing under me when she was not in her best coat – so I obviously rate her highly. She has a wonderful head and expression, super length and curves and today was in better topcoat. However she was not happy in the ring and not moving with any curves or carriage – a disappointment for her handler, but not at her best on the day. - 3RD AM CH KINGS MTN EMILY ELIZABETH
